July 10: Plant of the Week: Texas Sedge

Hi SJUMC!  I am native Texas Sedge. They say I’m “common” but there’s nothing uncommon about the fact that I can actually be used as a substitute for turf grass on lawns. As long as I’m in sun to part shade, I also do well in borders like SJUMC’s where I’m growing up to be a good ground cover as I spread by rhizomes underground. I kind of look like a bunch of luxurious green hair; if you think of me that way, you have to smile! Come by and check me out.
