Growing Up at Saint John's

"Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity."

~ 1 Timothy 4:12

 Growing Up at Saint John’s

Hi, my name is Ruby Airhart and I am a 17-year-old member of Saint John's. Church has been a core part of my being for my whole life since before I can remember.

When I was little, I came to church because my parents did, but I nonetheless loved it still, making so many memories playing sardines in the sanctuary, singing for Youth Sunday, and falling asleep in the pews during service.

Now that I'm a confirmed member, I still go to church with my parents, but I find myself looking forward to it much more than I did in the past. This is because of all the wonderful people I get to see when I go to church or Youth Group. The connections I've made with older members, younger youth, my friends, and youth leaders mean so much to me and leave me fulfilled after coming to the special place that is our church. I see God's love shining through these people with every interaction, especially when I get to be around the young kids. It feels so magical to get to pass on the love and wonder that I experienced when I was a young kid of the church and to see them learn and grow.

Growing up at Saint John's, curiosity without judgement was encouraged every Sunday, something I still apply to school and my life every day. I am so grateful when I look back on the impact the role models I have in this church, as well as the lessons I have learned within the walls of Saint John's, have had on my character. The welcoming way of the Saint John's family is truly one-of-a-kind, and I can't wait to see its full reach as we continue to support our youth as they grow into beautiful adults.
