Lent 2023: Conversations that Change the World
This Lenten season, Saint John’s will examine individual conversations people had with Jesus and how we can listen to what Christ says to us today. Join us on a 1st century and 21st century journey of change, challenge, and comfort -- for these are the conversations that change the world.
Annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper, February 21st, 5:30 - 7:00 pm - The Men’s Covenant Group will host its Annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper in the Great Hall. A love offering will be accepted at the event, and this year’s offering will go toward the Methodist Build for Habitat for Humanity.
Ash Wednesday, February 22nd at 12:00 noon and 7:00 pm - Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 22 at noon (in-person and livestreamed) and 7:00 pm (in-person only). We launch our Lenten journey by centering through scripture, simple music, and prayer. Rev. Randy Knighten will share a reflection and Cina Crisara will provide music.
Sunday, February 26th - Rev. Hilary Marchbanks preaches about Jesus’ conversation in the wilderness. Music from the Chancel Choir.
Sunday, March 5th - Rev. Hilary Marchbanks preaches about Jesus’ conversation with Nicodemus. Communion liturgy with Rev. Andy Smith. Music from the Chancel Choir.
Sunday, March 12th - Rev. Randy Knighten preaches about Jesus’ conversation with the Woman at the Well. Music from the Chancel Singers.
Sunday, March 19th - Shelley Walters preaches about Jesus’ conversation with the man who was born blind. Music from the Trinity Singers.
Stepping Stone, Friday, March 24th - Join us for this annual service half-way through Lent where we convey our conversations with God through intentional readings and prayers. Music from Chancel Singers and soloists. In-person only.
Sunday, March 26th - Rev. Hilary preaches about Jesus’ conversation with Mary and Martha. Music from the Jones Handbell Choir.
Palm/Passion Sunday, April 2nd - A palm processional begins our service. Rev. Hilary preaches about Jesus’ conversations on the way to Jerusalem.
Sunday, April 2nd Children's Ministry Easter Event - Join us Sunday, April 2nd following the 11:00 am Palm Sunday service join us upstairs in the Great Hall for lunch followed by an Easter Egg hunt throughout the building. Youth Volunteers will hide the Easter Eggs while kids and families eat lunch.
Maundy Thursday, April 6th at 7:00 pm - Music and prayers guide us to remember the Last Supper, ushering us into the gravity of this night in the life of Jesus. In-person only. We will share in Holy Communion; all are welcome at the table.
Good Friday, April 7th at 12:00 noon – Music and leadership from the JOY Singers. At noon, the entire Passion Story is read aloud. In-person only.
Good Friday, April 7th at 7:00 pm – We share The Passion Story, segmented into the various stations of that Friday. Each portion of scripture is answered with a musical response to allow deeper contemplation of the steps Jesus took in the salvation of the world. In-person and livestreamed. Music from the Chancel Choir.
Easter Sunday, April 9th –
7:00 am Youth-led sunrise service outside with scripture, music and communion. In-person only.
9:00 am and 11:00 am Rev. Hilary preaches about Jesus’ conversation with the disciples on the walk to Emmaus. The 9:00 am service will be in person and the 11:00 service is in person and livestreamed. Music from the Chancel Choir and Jones Handbell Choir.
*Sunday morning worship services are in-person at 9:00; in-person and livestreamed at 11:00 as usual.
