Risk Taking Mission and ServiceAt Saint John's, we offer myriad service opportunities in the community and beyond. Saint John’s supports the Global United Methodist Church’s goals to improve global health, eradicate poverty, provide new places for new people and raise up young leaders.

Ministry with the Poor
Interfaith Hospitality Network. We participate in this network of churches that provide food and housing for homeless families through the Foundation for the Homeless. Families stay at Saint John's for a week at a time, and volunteer opportunities abound for the congregation - from supplying meals to serving as overnight hosts.
Food Insecurities. We partner with Hope Food Pantry by providing volunteers, food, leadership and monetary donations.
Clothing Collections. Drop off your clothes for homeless men in the gallery.
Montopolis Friendship Community Center. This community center in Southeast Austin is a District mission project supported by Saint John's United Methodist Women.
Seasonal activities. Saint John’s participates in Region XIII’s Thanksgiving Bag collection as well as hosts an Alternative Christmas Market.
Raising Up Young Leaders
Lamar Middle School. We support our neighborhood school through administrative volunteering, musical partnerships, and tutoring.
Support for our Elderly
Support for our elderly. Through our Homebound Visiting Ministry, our Homebound Communion Ministry, and Faith in Action Caregivers, teams of Saint John's members serve the elderly in our community.
Improving Global Health
Diecke Clinic. We help lead the Austin District partnership with the Diecke (Pronounced "Jay-Kay") United Methodist Community in Guinea, Africa. Through this project, we support their church, medical clinic and school.
Annual Health Fair. We host an annual health fair for Saint John’s and the surrounding community. This fair provides opportunities for immunizations, as well as health awareness education.
Mental Health Ministries Team. The Mental Health Ministries team dedicated to reducing the stigma of mental illness and helping people find ways to improve their mental health. Mental health is essential to good overall health!
Saint John’s Pedalers. We field teams to participate in the LiveStrong Ride and the Hill Country Ride for AIDS.
Mission Trips. Saint John's is on a mission! From youth mission trips in the summer to churchwide mission trips throughout the year, Saint John’s helps those in need through the United Methodist Volunteers in Mission Program.
Disaster Early Response Team. Find out about training to help be one of the first responders to disaster. We work with the United Methodist Committee on Relief for training and placement.
Ongoing Central Texas Fire Relief. We partner with Austin-area Methodist churches closest to the affected areas by providing supplies, donations and, people.
Interfaith Action Central Texas (iACT) We support and work with iACT to foster respect, partnership and transformation among diverse faith and cultural communities in order to enhance the quality of life in the Austin area. We also participate in their refugee support programs.
Methodist Federation for Social Action. We support and work within the Southwest Texas Chapter of the Methodist Federation for Social Action to unite and energize clergy and laity within the United Methodist Church to take action on issues of peace, poverty and people’s rights in the church, nation and world (see sidebar).
