BIBLE STUDIES
Disciple Bible Study I, II, III & IV
Each of the four studies is a 32-week program of disciplined Bible study and prayer in a small group setting. Through the four-phase program, participants will have studied the entire Bible in survey fashion followed by in-depth study according to groupings of literature.
Invitation to the Old and New Testaments, Genesis, Romans, John and Psalms
These are eight-week introductory Bible studies for the beginning Bible student.
SPIRITUAL GROWTH & PRACTICE
Companions in Christ
A 28-week course, presented in a small group format, focused on prayer and spiritual formation.
The Way of ... Grace, Forgiveness, Blessedness, Prayer, Transforming Discipleship, and Discernment
These short courses, in the style of Companions in Christ, provide a 6-10 week experience in spiritual formation through reading, reflection and discussion.
Nearer to the Heart of God
A four-week experience in seeking to understand some of the tried and true ... and new ... practices that Christians have used to nurture their relationship with God.
THEOLOGY & CULTURE STUDIES
“Living the Questions” and “Saving Jesus”
These courses explore what it means to be a thinking, progressive Christian in the 21st century. They are serious explorations of faith questions and the relevance of Jesus in the third millennium featuring some of today’s leading theological thinkers including John Shelby Spong, Marcus Borg, John Dominic Crossan, Matthew Fox, James Forbes and many more.
Living the Heart of Christianity
This 12-week study looks at how to put your faith into action based on Marcus Borg's book, "The Heart of Christianity." Week course studies Marcus Borg’s “The Heart of Christianity” using the video Faith and Reason seminar series.
Eclipsing Empire
This is a 14-week study with Marcus Borg and John Dominic Crossan as they travel through Turkey exploring fresh insights into Paul's message of the Kingdom of God, its challenge to Roman imperial theology and its radical relevance for today.
BOOK DISCUSSIONS
Groups meets 6-8 times a year for a single evening program. Participants gather over a brown bag supper or cup of coffee to share ideas and insights. Discussion topics, provided by the publisher or author, serve as flexible guidelines and are supplemented by the spiritual implications of the particular books. Past selections have included The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold, The Red Tent by Anita Diamont, The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown, and God's Politics by Jim Wallis.
PRAYER LABYRINTH
Walking the labyrinth is an ancient form of walking prayer and meditation. Saint John’s has a labyrinth in the floor of our Chapel. All are welcome to walk it. You may want to call first and find out about chapel availability. We offer occasional introductory classes on walking the labyrinth. Watch the newsletter for details.
